Everyone eats and drinks, and over time the colours in our food and beverages can stain teeth. Teeth can also darken as they absorb pigments from everyday cooking oils. Metal fillings and previous root canal treatments can contribute to discolouration as well.
Over the years we’ve tested many whitening methods. We find the most reliable approach is to create custom, precisely fitting thin trays, similar to sports gum shields, but much thinner. You wear these trays overnight with a whitening gel inside. The gel actively breaks down the dark pigments, gradually lightening your teeth.
Teeth respond at different rates, so we guide you carefully on what to do and what to avoid. We review your progress after two weeks and assess the results. Some patients may need a longer application period to reach their ideal shade.
Unfortunately, as we all consume food and drink, results won’t last forever, therefore Affinity advises that for one night every two months, trays are worn with the whitening gel as a top up to keep your teeth consistently white and bright.
We recommend alteration of veneers, crowns or fillings which can be advised upon assessment as these will not respond or change colour with our whitening treatments.
